Membership

To be able to use Charlton Toy Library you will need to become a member. Once a member, you will be able to use all the services listed below and you will be covered by our insurance. As Charlton Toy Library is an independent registered charity with no government or council funding, there is a small membership fee. See below for details.

To become a member of Charlton Toy Library, you will need to bring:

• Proof of name and address, eg. driver’s licence, council tax bill or utility bill
• Proof of benefits for concessionary rate

Membership benefits:

• Play sessions three times a week.
• Sensory play session and singing sessions every week.
• Hiring from an extensive range of good quality educational toys, games & books at very low cost.
• Access to a huge range of child safety equipment at very low cost.
• Advice on the right toy choice for your child.
• Advice on the correct safety equipment.
• Information days.
• Fun days.

Costs:

• The six monthly family membership is £15.00 (£7.50  concessionary rate for new and existing members on income support or working tax credit).
• Groups or schools membership: Please contact the Toy Library.
• Toy loans from £0.50 to £2.50 for a two week period (subject to availability and discretion).
• Children and parenting book loans free of charge.
• Baby and safety equipment £5.00 for a six month loan period.

Overdue items:

• Less that 1 week overdue – no charge
• Less than 2 weeks overdue – half the usual loan charge
• 2 or more weeks overdue – usual loan charge or a multiple according to time overdue.
• Overdue charges may be waived at our discretion if due to an emergency, sickness or birth of a new baby.

General terms and conditions: 

• All equipment borrowed is to be returned clean and on time.
• Please report any broken or missing items to a member of staff upon return.
• Children must be supervised at all times in the library.
• Lending toys must not be played with in the play-area.
• Play areas are open to members only – you are responsible for the children in your care and your belongings at all times.
• Please help keep the Toy Library clean and tidy.
• If your children have had sickness and diarrhoea within the last 24 hours please do not bring them to the Toy Library.
