November 2020 – London, Charlton – Halloween saw Charlton Park buzzing with little treasure hunters, as Charlton Toy Library put on a Pumpkin Treasure Hunt. 120 children took part and £160 were raised for the Toy Library. 10 different clues had to be found to spell out the secret words to exchange for sweets or a toy. Even the heavy rain at the end couldn’t deter the participants. All social distancing measures and government guidelines were followed for this event.
Vicky Thomas, CTL Co-ordinator says: “We were delighted to see so many families come and join our Covid secure event. In these times when so many kids’ activities aren’t open, it was great to be able to do this for the community and as there is a need, we will be doing more of it.
Charlie Rome, participant said: “The pumpkin hunt was a superb way to spend a Saturday morning. My two little boys loved looking for the landmarks and finding the letters. And mum and dad just about managed to work out the anagram! Two very happy (if a little wet) boys at the end.”

Charlton Toy Library is a Registered Charity set up in 1982 by a group of mums who met on a regular basis with their children. They took turns in running it from their own homes. It is now housed within Charlton House and run by a voluntary Management Committee made up of current and former Toy Library members.
Charlton Toy Library aims to promote the principle that play does matter for the developing child. Our objectives are to:
- Make play available & lend appropriate toys and books.
- Extend the opportunity for shared play into the home.
- Provide play areas where children and adults can use a wide variety of toys and creative activities and to offer an opportunity to socialise and exchange experiences.
- Offer a befriending & supportive service to parents and carers.
Charlton Toy Library is not part of Greenwich Council or any Leisure Library. It is an independent voluntary group which has to secure its own funding.
